2012 First Business Economic Forum by First Business
Attendees found out what Northeast Wisconsin business leaders are saying about 2011’s actual results and what is predicted for 2012 in terms of sales revenue, operating costs, capital expenditures, profitability, and more. Following a summary of the 2012 First Business Economic Survey results, participants in this session heard from a panel of local business leaders, moderated by Margaret LeBrun of Insight Publications.

  • Thomas Kunkel, President of St. Norbert College
  • James Beré, Chairman & CEO of Alta Resources Corp.

Business & Education:  Collaborations That Work
Leaders from K-12, technical colleges, universities and business shared with attendees how to start and sustain meaningful collaboration between business and education that will inspire students, ensure necessary education and skill development, and increase student success in the workplace.

Small Business and Entrepreneurship: Fast Forward 1.0 - Innovation to Capitalization for fast growth entrepreneurs
Attendees of this session had an opportunity to learn more about Fast Forward 1.0, the new program to locate and accelerate fast-growth entrepreneurs in the New North region. They heard presentations on best practices from the first entrepreneurs and mentors participating in the program, as well as from the regional angel investors and business advisors who support them.

Innovative Sustainability: What we can we learn from our region’s best practices?
Northeast Wisconsin Education Resource Alliance (NEWERA) presented a panel of experts who have used innovative sustainability best practices to save energy, conserve resources and reduce costs to lead to better business results. The session also included a special debut of the recent ‘Cool North Trends’ sustainability best practices project in collaboration with Cool Choices, New North and NEWERA.

New North Global Trade: An Innovative pathway to increasing regional exports
Paul Hampton, Director of Consulting at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, one of the largest real estate service firms in the world, unveiled the newly launched Northeast Wisconsin Export Strategy, a document that highlights action steps to promote expanded export operations in the region. Rob Swannell, General Manager, and Heather Sass, Marketing Manager, of Great Northern Rollguard, a product line of Great Northern Corporation, co-presented to highlight their exporting experiences, key best practices learned, tips for success, including developing an export plan and entering into exporting.
